Kirk Hammett Interview Footage

March 22, 2009 - Leave a Response

Ok, as promised, here is the raw footage of the Kirk Hammett interview..and the story I put together as well.  The raw footage lasts about six or seven minutes.  You can tell he’s a pretty easy-going guy.  Love how he turned into a photog during the interview!

Metallica…and Heading Back

March 21, 2009 - Leave a Response

Well i got to sit down with Kirk Hammett from Metallica on Friday.  Very laid back, nice guy.  He talked about the band’s tour, the recent album, and their new Guitar Hero Metallica video game.  He even grabbed my flipcam and did a little filming on his own! I’ll have more video of the interview later.  For now, I’m heading back to Houston!  That’s right…it was a quick three days and I heard a ton of cool music, ate a bunch of pizza, and covered some pretty interesting angles out there.  But the forecast awaits!  So I have to get back for the 6pm news.

Check in very soon…I’ll have video of Metallica up on my next post :)

Crazy Crazy Day!

March 21, 2009 - Leave a Response

Okay, I’ve been so busy on Friday that I’m only now getting a chance to post all the craziness at SXSW.  I have some links below…one is from Thursday at the Flatstock Poster Art Show and some video from today when I looked at the tattoo culture here in Austin at South by Southwest.  I saw Metallica tonight too! And got an interview with Kirk Hammett.  I’ll be posting raw video of the interview later, but for now, take a look at my last couple of stories:

Day Two!

March 19, 2009 - 3 Responses

Taking a break from downtown Austin for a few hours to check out the video I got.  Downtown was as busy as yesterday, if not busier! Plenty of music going on this afternoon.  I headed over to the Convention Center because I heard there were some cool things to check out there…and I found a band poster art exhibit going on called the Flatstock Poster Art Show.  REALLY amazing posters of all kinds for just about any band you can think of, mainstream or obscure.  More to come on that.  Grabbed some unhealthy food, and headed back to the hotel.  Heading out later tonight to catch some more music and hit up some venues I haven’t been in yet.

Houston Bands at SXSW

March 19, 2009 - One Response

Check out some of the Houston acts at SXSW this year…these are just a few that played last night.  I was actually impressed with Wild Moccasins…they’re young but they had a pretty good sound…very catchy.  More to come!

Long Day…and A BLAST

March 19, 2009 - Leave a Response

So I just got back from downtown Austin….and it’s about 3:45 am!

I saw a bunch of music acts here from Houston tonight.  DJ Ceeplus Bad Knives at Barcelona, hip hop artist Magno aka Magnificent at Fuze, The Jonbenet played hard rock at the Red 7…and a younger, but very talented group, Wild Moccasins playing over on Colorado St. at The Tap Room at Six.  On top of that, I can’t count how many street acts were out there.  You really can’t go anywhere downtown without hearing some kind of music.  And if you’re looking for a different sound, it’s probably only a block away!

Well, I’ll try and get some video posted as soon as possible, but right now my bed is calling.  Tomorrow I’ll have more time in the day to check out the scene in the daylight.

On My Way To Austin!

March 18, 2009 - Leave a Response

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out my South By Southwest blog.  I’m on my way to Austin as we speak for three days to check out and report on one of the biggest music events of the year.  I’ve been to Austin, but this is my first time at SXSW, so I’m really excited.  Looking forward to seeing all the up-and-coming bands and some pretty famous ones too.  In fact, I’m scheduled to speak to Metallica on Friday!

I play music myself, so this should be an awesome trip.  If you’ve read my bio on click2houston.com (I know you all have :)  ) then you know I’ve been playing guitar and songwriting for years now.  And no, I haven’t written a song about the weather yet, lol.

I’m also hoping to catch a few movies while I’m there, as the film fest will still be going on.  I’ll be posting more blogs, and some video too, so stay tuned!!
